An accomplished artist team from Switzerland at the International Snow Sculpture
Championships in the U.S. reach second place.
From the 24th to 29th January 2006 the 16th International Snow Sculpture
Championships took place in the popular U.S. ski spa town of Breckenridge,
Colorado. From hundreds of entries the top-class jury chose sculptures based on projects
submitted from 14 world class teams who were invited to the competition. Among them - the
only team from Switzerland - the four renowned sculptors Timo Naef, Daniel
Christian, Michael Frey and Heinz Kirchhofer.
We accompanied and actively supported the four artists in the operation Breckenridge in 2006
from the outset. Thanks to our know-how the project was elevated to a more professional
level and thus improved their chances against the strong international competition.
Our design department helped create a 3-D model of the planned sculpture Somersault. From
this model we made detailed drawings that permitted targeted, precise work.
Specially designed tools helped the artists to work efficiently according to the time limit
of a maximum of 65 hours. After all, it was 20 tons of snow to a more than 3.5-meter-high
intricate artwork to mold.
We congratulate the team on the great success.
